Chocolate Turtles

Ingredients:
– 1 can sweetened condensed milk
– 1 1/2 bags chocolate chips
– 1 tbsp. plus 1 tsp. canola oil
– Chopped pecans

Directions:
Remove the label from the can of milk, submerge the unopened can in a pan of water, and boil for two hours, adding water as necessary to keep the can covered.

After can has cooled completely, Place 1 bag of chocolate chips and 1 tbsp. canola oil in a microwave-safe container. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, and repeat until chocolate is melted.

Line two cookie sheets with waxed paper and use a teaspoon to make circles of chocolate about an inch and a half in diameter. Place the cookie sheets in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes until chocolate hardens.

After the chocolate sets up, open the can of sweetened condensed milk. Inside, you will find that the milk has turned into smooth, creamy caramel. Spoon caramel onto the center of each chocolate circle, sprinkle with nuts, and return to the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes.

Melt the other half-bag of chocolate chips with the remaining teaspoon of canola oil, using the same method as before. Spoon the melted chocolate over the turtles, taking care to cover the caramel and nuts completely and seal the edges. Return turtles to the refrigerator or freezer until chocolate hardens.

Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Makes about 24 turtles.
